Sony's budget-line S.O.U.L. series reaches Ray Parker, Jr. and covers his first six albums for Arista, from 1978's self-titled album with Raydio through 1983's Woman Out of Control, and -- of course -- adds 1984's "Ghostbusters." Most casual fans will get what they need here -- simple but clever pop-soul hits like "Jack and Jill," "You Can't Change That," "A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do)," and "Two Places at the Same Time." Parker, however, has a catalog that goes deeper than the singles; the albums from which this disc pulls were reissued by the Edsel and Funk Town Grooves labels during the early 2010s.
