One dead after Highway 97 crash near Chetwynd

One person is confirmed dead after the major crash that closed Highway 97 yesterday south of Chetwynd. RCMP investigators say a car hit a pickup truck on the highway, 2 km south of town.

The lone occupant of the car suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The two adults in the pickup truck were seriously injured and remain in hospital, and the dog in the vehicle died at the scene. The two children in the backseat of the pickup truck were not injured.

The crash closed the highway just before noon on Thursday, and reopened at about 9 PM.

None of the names are being released at this time. The BC Coroner's Service and RCMP are continuing their investigations.
